Why GOP Billionaires Aren't Winning

A funny thing's happening on the way to Nov. 6. The billionaires trying to buy the U.S. election with contributions of $1 million, $10 million or even $100 million aren't succeeding.

If trends continue and the Democrats have a good year (still a big if), the notion that in order to win candidates need the indirect backing provided by gobs of money from super-political action committees will be discredited.

Detroit 2025: After the Recession, a City Reimagined

The year is 2025. Detroit, the poster child of the Great Recession, is emerging as a model of urban life. The transformation could be called a miracle but for the fact that the change was wrought by the very things that first made Detroit great: innovation, industriousness, and a will to win against all odds.

The metamorphosis grew from desperation. In 2008, two of the Big Three carmakers were swirling toward the sinkhole of bankruptcy. The city's population, which peaked at 1.85 million during the post?World War II auto boom, was approaching 700,000. Tracts of wilderness, abandoned factories, and empty houses sparked a perverse fascination with Detroit's ruins. "This whole area really bottomed out," William Clay "Bill" Ford Jr., Ford's chairman and a great-grandson of the automotive company's founder, says.

But then something powerful and unexpected happened: Visionaries and ordinary citizens, tired of living in a crumbling city, decided to quit waiting for someone to fix it. "I think there was a realization by everybody in this region, not just in Detroit, that the way we were doing things was a broken model," Ford says. "At Ford we had to completely reinvent ourselves."

The reinvention was aided by the group that Ford's great-grandfather had resisted so viciously, the United Auto Workers (UAW). "When things were the bleakest," Ford says, "UAW president Ron Gettelfinger and the union took concessions that allowed Ford to survive and ultimately thrive. Ron said to me, 'Look, we've got to get out of this together.' If you can take entrenched institutions like the auto companies and the UAW and completely redefine the relationship, then it should be possible for the city of Detroit to do it too."

That was Bill Ford's epiphany; other Detroiters had their own. People with foresight and guts began investing in the city again. Detroit natives who had fled their broken hometown trickled back, joined by pioneering young people who saw past the city's blight. Instead, they saw available buildings, cheap rents, and a welcome mat for innovators. They saw an iron work ethic and fierce energy. And in a landscape ravaged by depopulation and decay, some bright people saw a blank canvas on which to paint a new urban model.

LANDSCAPE URBANISM

Reemerging waterways and feral forests claim land left open by sharp population decline. Detroit goes green with planning that takes advantage of the city's unique ecology.

WATER CITY

The daylighting, or unearthing, of Bloody Run and other creeks makes water key to a core redevelopment of 3500 acres.

GREEN MACHINE

Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biofuel production from urban forests greatly reduce dependence on an aging power grid.

CONNECT & BUILD

Waterside paths and parks are used not only for play but also for commuting. They link neighborhoods and promote business development.

URBAN FARMING

Agriculture becomes a small industry for Detroit. Farms export produce to surrounding areas and support a thriving locavore movement.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The water-based redevelopment of Detroit leads to the construction of new bridges, the repair of old ones, and the refurbishing of adjacent streets.

NFL, referees union reach tentative deal

NFL referees must still vote on the contract, which frees the NFL from paying the referees' pensions, but includes generous 401(k) contributions and pay increases. Referees?will be back officiating Thursday's night's NFL game.

Regular NFL referees (shown here in this 2011 file photo officiating an Atlanta-Houston game) will take the field Thursday night when the Cleveland Browns play the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. The NFL and referees' union reached a tentative agreement Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, to end a three-month lockout.

After two days of marathon negotiations ? and mounting frustration among coaches, players and fans ? the NFL and the referees' union announced at midnight Thursday that a tentative agreement had been reached to end a lockout that began in June.

Commissioner Roger Goodell, who was at the bargaining table Tuesday and Wednesday, said the regulars would call the Browns-Ravens game at Baltimore.

The tentative eight-year deal must be ratified by 51 percent of the union's 121 members. They plan to vote Friday and Saturday.

"Welcome back REFS," Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller tweeted shortly after the news broke.

The replacements worked the first three weeks of games, triggering a wave of outrage that threatened to disrupt the rest of the season. After a missed call cost the Green Bay Packers a win on a chaotic final play at Seattle on Monday night, the two sides really got serious.

"We are glad to be getting back on the field for this week's games," referees' union president Scott Green said.

The NFLRA said the current defined benefit pension plan will remain in place for current officials through the 2016 season or until the official earns 20 years' service. The defined benefit plan will then be frozen.

Retirement benefits will be provided for new hires, and for all officials beginning in 2017, through a defined contribution arrangement. The annual league contribution made on behalf of each game official will begin with an average of more than $18,000 per official and increase to more than $23,000 per official in 2019, and a partial match on any additional contribution that an official makes to his 401(k) account.

Apart from their benefit package, the game officials' compensation will increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011 to $173,000 in 2013, rising to $205,000 by 2019.

Beginning with the 2013 season, the NFL will have the option of hiring a number of officials on a full-time basis to work year-round, including on the field. The NFL will have the option to retain additional officials for training and development purposes, and may assign those additional officials to work NFL games. The number of additional officials will be determined by the NFL.

Replacement refs aren't new to the NFL. They worked the first week of games in 2001 before a deal was reached. But those officials came from the highest level of college football; the current replacements do not. Their ability to call fast-moving NFL games drew mounting criticism through Week 3, climaxing last weekend, when ESPN analyst Jon Gruden called their work "tragic and comical."

Those comments came during "Monday Night Football," with Seattle beating Green Bay 14-12 on a desperation pass into the end zone on the final play. Packers safety M.D. Jennings had both hands on the ball in the end zone, and when he fell to the ground in a scrum, both Jennings and Seahawks receiver Golden Tate had their arms on the ball.

The closest official to the play, at the back of the end zone, signaled for the clock to stop, while another official at the sideline ran in and then signaled touchdown.

The NFL said in a statement Tuesday that the touchdown pass should not have been overturned ? but acknowledged Tate should have been called for offensive pass interference before the catch. The league also said there was no indisputable evidence to reverse the call made on the field.

That drew even louder howls of disbelief. Some coaches, including Miami's Joe Philbin and Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis, tried to restore some calm by instructing players not to speak publicly on the issue.

Fines against two coaches for incidents involving the replacements were handed out Wednesday.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was docked $50,000 for trying to grab an official's arm Sunday to ask for an explanation of a call after his team lost at Baltimore. And Washington offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was tagged for $25,000 for what the league called "abuse of officials" in the Redskins' loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. Two other coaches, Denver's John Fox and assistant Jack Del Rio, were fined Monday for incidents involving the replacements the previous week.

"I accept the discipline and I apologize for the incident," Belichick said.

Players were in no mood for apologies from anyone.

"I'll probably get in trouble for this, but you have to have competent people," Carolina receiver Steve Smith said. "And if you're incompetent, get them out of there."

Added Rams quarterback Sam Bradford: "I just don't think it's fair to the fans, I don't think it's fair to us as players to go out there and have to deal with that week in and week out. I really hope that they're as close as they say they are."

They were. Finally.

AP Sports Writers Tim Reynolds in Miami, Steve Reed in Charlotte, and R.B. Fallstrom in St. Louis contributed to this story.

Pregnant and just start snoring? You may have hypertension ...

If you're pregnant and you (or your other half) notice you've started to snore, you might want to talk to your doctor.? You could be at greater risk of getting high blood pressure and preeclampsia , according to a new study in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Preeclampsia, left untreated, can be life-threatening to the mother and unborn child.??It usually starts after the fifth month of pregnancy and?causes a pregnant woman's blood pressure to go up and the presence of protein in the mother's urine.? This can significantly?affect the placenta?and the mother's liver, kidney and brain. Preeclampsia can cause seizures and is the second leading cause of death in pregnant women in the United States. It's also a leading cause of fetal complications including premature birth, low birth weight and stillbirth.? There is no cure short of delivering the baby. The study, conducted by the University of Michigan, was the largest of its kind and the first to show that women who begin snoring after they become pregnant have a greater risk of getting high blood pressure and face significant risk to their cardiovascular health, says?lead author Louise O'Brien, an associate professor at the University of Michigan's Sleep Disorders Center. "What we found was that snoring during pregnancy was indeed strongly associated with gestational hypertension and preeclampsia," O'Brien told CNN. "That was after we had accounted for other known risk factors. What was a novelty about this study was that we looked at women who have been snoring before they got pregnant and women who developed snoring during their pregnancy.? It was actually the women who started snoring after they became pregnant that were at highest risk of high blood pressure problems." More than 1,700 pregnant women participated in the study.? They were recruited in their last trimester ? 28 weeks and up.? O'Brien says 25% of them started snoring frequently once pregnant, doubling their risk of high blood pressure compared to women who don't snore.? Nine percent reported chronic snoring. Chronic snoring ? snoring three to four nights a week ? is an indication of a sleep disorder.? O'Brien says these women can be treated for "sleep disordered breathing" by using a continuous positive airway pressure machine, or CPAP. ? The machine is worn during sleep and pushes out mild air pressure to help keep the person's airways open. O'Brien has a new study underway to determine whether using a CPAP?decreases hypertension in pregnant women.? But she says while more than one-third of these pregnant women were snoring by their last trimester, not all of them will have sleep apnea.? There are a number of things pregnant women can and should do. 'Women should mention frequent snoring to their doctor," O'Brien said. "The problem is many women don't mention sleep problems to their obstetrician and conversely obstetricians don't ask their patients about sleep problems either." O'Brien reminds expectant mothers that how you?sleep is also important.? Snoring is much more common when people lay on their back, which most pregnant women don't do.? For pregnant women, side sleeping is better ? preferably the left side, she says, because the weight of the uterus presses down on some of the vessels that bring the blood back to the lungs. Her message for physicians? "If they have a patient who has gestational hypertension or preeclampsia and they ask them if they snore frequently and the answer is yes, those are the patients who may benefit from a more thorough sleep apnea workup." The takeaway of this study is simple, says O'Brien: "If we can highlight the importance of snoring in pregnant women and we can encourage obstetricians?to ask their patients about snoring, it is important not just to ask at the initial visit but also continue to ask as the pregnancy progresses.? I think this study also reinforces the fact that we need to look at treatment intervention trials to see if we can improve maternal hypertension by treating any underlying sleep apnea." Walkable neighborhoods tied to lower diabetes risk

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People living in communities that lend themselves to walking had a significantly lower risk of developing diabetes than those living in the least walkable neighborhoods in a large new study from Canada.

"If you have fewer opportunities for physical activity in your daily life, then you may gain more weight...and you're also more likely to develop diabetes," said Dr. Gillian Booth, the lead author and a researcher at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.

Booth said earlier studies have looked at potential links between diabetes and the pedestrian-friendliness of neighborhoods, and have found similar connections - but that research took only a snapshot in time, making it difficult to determine which came first, the neighborhood style or the elevated diabetes risk.

With the world's population increasingly concentrated in cities, Booth and her colleagues wanted to further tease apart the relationship between urban environment and health.

New immigrants from less developed countries to urban areas like Toronto are at particular risk for falling into a sedentary lifestyle and falling prey to Western lifestyle diseases, Booth's team notes in the journal Diabetes Care.

To assess whether neighborhood walkability influences the likelihood of developing diabetes, Booth and her colleagues collected information from a health registry on nearly all adults living in Ontario, focusing on the 1.2 million who did not have diabetes.

For five years, from 2005 to 2010, they tracked how many people went on to develop diabetes.

They also mapped out where the people lived, and categorized them according to the walkability of their community.

The most walking-friendly places are more densely populated, have streets that connect with one another, and have stores, schools, work places and other destinations within walking distance of homes.

The least walkable neighborhoods are more sprawling, with disjointed streets and long distances from homes to shopping centers and schools.

The researchers found that, among long-term Ontario residents, 6,003 out of about 210,000 of those who lived in the least walkable neighborhoods developed diabetes, compared to 5,290 out of 245,000 who lived in the most walkable areas. This corresponds to a 32 percent increase in diabetes risk for those who live in the least-walkable areas.

Among new immigrants to the region in the previous 10 years - most foreign born - more than twice as many people in the least-walkable neighborhoods developed diabetes as in the most-walkable areas, translating to a 58 percent increased relative risk for those in the walking-unfriendly neighborhoods.

The study did not show that people actually walked less in those neighborhoods, but Dr. Ethan Berke, associate professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire, said that people who live in pedestrian-friendly communities tend to be more physically active.

Although the new study could not prove that walking was responsible for the lower diabetes risk in certain neighborhoods, Berke, who was not involved in the research, thinks that something in the neighborhood environment is likely responsible for the findings.

"Whether that's due to social capital or opportunities for healthy behaviors, such as physical activity, or opportunities for access to healthy foods isn't clear, because a walkable neighborhood is usually associated with a lot of those things," Berke said.

Other research has linked walking to a lowered chance of having diabetes. One recent study showed that people who are at high risk for diabetes and who walk more are less likely to ultimately develop the blood sugar disorder (see Reuters Health story of June 28, 2012).

Booth said that aside from the weight benefits of physical activity, exercise itself might help ward off diabetes by improving the body's use of insulin.

On the higher risk seen among recent immigrants to Canada, Booth speculates that immigrants from a very different environment may be more sensitive to the lack of opportunities for activity than residents who have lived in an area longer.

"We need to rethink how we're designing neighborhoods and think about it from the perspective of what impact it has on health," she said.

Berke agreed. "Where we live has a huge impact on our health, and I think this study adds to the evidence that where you live matters an awful lot in how you get sick and if you get sick," he said.

(AP) ? President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney are sparring over how best to address U.S. challenges abroad in nearly back-to-back addresses at the Clinton Global Initiative's annual meeting.

Following deadly anti-American protests in Muslim countries over the past two weeks, Romney was to outline plans Tuesday to rework the U.S. foreign aid system, tying development money to requirements that countries allow U.S. investment and remove trade barriers. Obama also was to address top foreign leaders, CEOs and nongovernmental organizations at the gathering spearheaded by former President Bill Clinton.

The event puts the two presidential contenders in front of the same audience on the day Obama also was delivering a major address to the United Nations General Assembly. Both men were drawing contrasts in a presidential contest in which the state of the U.S. economy has been paramount, but which shifted focus this month to foreign policy after attacks in Libya killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador there.

In interviews and at campaign events Monday, Romney assailed Obama's leadership abroad, leading a chorus of Republicans in criticizing the president for what they said was minimizing the death of the Ambassador Chris Stevens. Obama, in an interview with CBS' "60 Minutes," said recent violence in the Mideast was due to "bumps in the road" on the way to democracy. Romney on Monday also suggested Obama was leaving American foreign policy at the mercy of events instead of working to shape global politics in America's interest.

At the United Nations, Obama planned a sweeping defense of his policy of engagement overseas. The president planned to "send a clear message that the United States will never retreat from the world, will bring justice to those who harm Americans and will stand strongly for our democratic values abroad," National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said in an email.

Romney's focus on foreign aid was likely to draw attention to the situation in Egypt, a U.S. ally and the recipient of billions of dollars in American assistance each year. That aid has come under new scrutiny in the wake of protests that saw Egyptians scaling the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. Romney has said he would put stricter conditions on U.S. aid to Egypt's newly installed government, now headed by an Islamist president. The Obama administration reinstated military aid to Egypt earlier this year despite concerns about abuse as the country transitions to democratic rule.

Romney's campaign said Monday that the current system of foreign aid "reflects an outdated way of thinking about the world."

Both Romney and Obama will appear on a stage at the gathering led by Clinton, who just a few weeks earlier was offering a forceful defense of Obama's economic record and plans for the future at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

"I think the president's plan is better than the Romney plan, because the Romney plan fails the first test of fiscal responsibility: The numbers don't add up," Clinton said in that speech, one of several jabs at the Republican nominee.

During the last presidential election, both Obama and 2008 Republican nominee John McCain spoke at Clinton's annual meeting. That year, the former president had warm words for both men. He praised McCain's stance on global warming and complimented Obama's approach to a meeting the two had held earlier in the month at Clinton's Harlem office.

After his speech to the Clinton meeting, Romney planned to discuss education policy at a forum sponsored by NBC News. He also planned to join running mate Paul Ryan at a campaign rally in Ohio.

Search Forex ? Blog Archive ? Foreign Exchange Advice To Help ...

Are you interested in becoming a currency trader? Here?s your chance! You may have many questions about how foreign exchange works, but this article will help clear up any questions you may have. This article will provide you with some excellent tips for beginning foreign exchange trading in the right way.

You should be aware that the foreign exchange market does not have a centralized location. This protects the foreign currency markets from getting shut down or ruined by a natural disaster. Just because an emergency or disaster occurs doesn?t mean you need to close out all of your trades. A major event may affect the market, but will not necessarily affect your currency pair that you are working with.

When you make money, be sure to celebrate your success. If you?ve made some profitable trades, consider sending your broker a withdrawal order so you can cash out some profits. Try to focus on the reasons you invested in the first place. What do you want to finance?

Make sure that you are the one to stay on top of your trades. While it may be tempting to use software to monitor your trades, monitoring them yourself is a better way to protect your investments. Forex trading is based on a numbers system. However, the smartest and most successful trading choices are made by intelligent, dedicated, and insightful human beings.

TIP! Once you?ve become comfortable with your current methods of trading, consider mixing it up and giving scalping methods a chance. This involves making a number of small trades in a short time period.

Fibonacci Levels

There are many aspects to trading that are important to learn, such as Fibonacci levels. Fibonacci levels can help you to make decisions about trading. Fibonnacci levels can guide you towards the best exits.

You should vet any tips or advice you receive regarding the Foreign Exchange market. An approach that gets great results for one person may prove a disaster for you. You have to develop the ability to discern changes in technical signals yourself and now how to reposition appropriately.

Create a plan. Without a solid, informed trading plan, you are likely to encounter difficulties in generating profits. You should come up with a plan you can stick with so you will not be tempted to make trades based on your feelings, which can make you lose money.

TIP! Do not buck the trends when you are new to the trade market. Don?t try picking the highs and lows of the market either.

Keep an eye on all of the relevant financial news. The news usually has great speculation that can help you gauge the rise and fall of currency. If you have a email or text alert service they can keep you updated on news.

Generating money through the Forex market can cause people to become overconfident and make careless trades. The same thing can happen when a person panics. Work hard to maintain control of your emotions and only act once you have all of the facts ? never act based on your feelings.

Beginners are often tempted to try to invest all over the place when they start out in forex trading. You should stick with one currency pair while you are learning the basics of trading. However, you should avoid doing this until you begin to have more knowledge about all the different markets so that you won?t suffer giant losses.

It?s actually best to do the opposite. You will find it less tempting to do this if you have charted your goals beforehand.

TIP! You should learn to read the market for yourself, and make your own analyses. Success in Forex trading requires the ability to make your own decisions, based on a thorough knowledge of the market.

Do not over complicate things. Avoid trying to jump into a system that is overly complicated, as this will only make it harder. In the beginning, it?s best to only use the methods that are simple and also work well for you. As you become more experienced, you can expand on your knowledge. Try to come up with ways to expand upon your base of knowledge.

Remember that on the foreign exchange market, up and down patterns will always be present, but there will only be one dominant pattern at a time. Finding sell signals is easy when there is an up market. You should tailor your trading strategy to current market trends.

Foreign Exchange

Come up with clear, achievable goals, and do all you can to reach them. If you decide to start investing in forex, set a goal for yourself as well as a timetable for achieving that goal. When you are new to trading, keep in mind that there is room for error. You should determine the amount of time you can dedicate to learning forex and performing research in addition to trading.

TIP! Limit your losses on trades by making use of stop loss orders. A lot of Forex traders won?t exit a position, hoping that the downward trend will reverse itself.

Foreign Exchange marketing holds many advantages over other investment and money making schemes. You can trade any time of day since it is available 24/7. You do not need large sums of money to get in on opportunities with foreign exchange. The forex trading market is accessible to nearly anyone at anytime.

Select a trading style based on your priorities. If you do not have time to watch the market constantly, use delayed orders or invest over a longer time frame rather than relying on day trades.

Do not change the place in which you put stop loss points, you will lose more in the long run. Have a set strategy and make sure to abide by it.

Some people think that the stop losses they set are visible to others in the market. They fear that the price will be manipulated somehow to dip just below the stop loss before moving back up gain. This is not true, and you should never trade without having stop loss markers.

TIP! You need to be able to customize your automated trading system. The software needs to be changeable to suit your needs.

Use online search engines to come up with a list of trustworthy brokers, as well as a list of those to avoid. You can find a lot of useful tips about brokers on Forex forums. Use this knowledge to choose a good broker so that you can avoid losing profits.

These tips will allow you to understand forex better, and make better trading decisions. This will allow you to work more effectively and make a better profit. We hope these tips will help you begin in foreign exchange and help carry you through to trading at a professional level.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p Tiny

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p Tiny ($580 direct) ultra small form factor enterprise-class business PC can slot into your organization and be managed by your IT department alongside larger ThinCentre systems. Though it is small in size, the system features forward-looking technology like a third-generation Core i5 processor, DisplayPort, and USB 3.0. The space saving, power saving "Tiny" system is our new Editors' Choice for entry-level business desktop PCs.

Design and Features
The M92p Tiny is, well, tiny. It's measures about 1.5 by 7 by 7 inches (HWD), which is diminutive even among systems like the Apple Mac mini (Thunderbolt) ($799 list, 4.5 stars) (1.4 by 7.7 by 7.7 inches) and our current small form factor Editor's Choice, the Polywell Poly i1000A-3770T ($899 list, 4.5 stars) (7.7 by 2.9 by 7.9 inches) : . The system we reviewed came with Lenovo's optical drive accessory, which adds about an inch to the system's width. The optical drive add-on isn't entirely necessary for most installations these days, but it was convenient to have when loading some of our benchmark files. The M92p Tiny is touted as a "1-liter" design, displacing only about a liter's volume on a desk space. In contrast, the original Mac mini from 2005 is considered a "1.4 liter" design.

The M92p Tiny packs a lot of hardware into that one liter. The system features an Intel Core i5-3470T processor, 4GB of memory, 500GB hard drive, and Intel integrated graphics. Its only internal expansion room is a free SO-DIMM slot for added memory. Unfortunately, the configuration we tested didn't come with Wi-Fi, which is kind of a no-brainer in this form factor. Wi-Fi is optional on the M92p Tiny. While tightly run IT organizations will eschew Wi-Fi as a security risk, companies that are more convenience-oriented will miss wireless networking.

All other expansion (including the optical drive) are external, using the M92p Tiny's very good selection of ports. The system has four USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port (for the optical drive), audio, VGA, Ethernet, and DisplayPort. The DisplayPort is novel because it can be "split" with an optional $80 connector to support two DisplayPort monitors. Add the VGA port to the mix, and the tested system can support up to three monitors. Two of the system's four USB 3.0 ports are on the front panel with two on the back panel, facilitating speedy hard drive hookups no matter which way the system is situated. Since the system is so tiny, it can be mounted under a desk surface or even in a special bracket on the back of the user's monitor, making it an almost all-in-one PC.

The M92p Tiny came with Windows 7 Professional, but the system is ready for Windows 8. Lenovo has pledged that it will support the system with drivers and tech support when Windows 8 is released later this year. The system we reviewed came with a few extra programs installed. These included a tablet-like interface called SimpleTap. Inside SimpleTap, there were a few pre-installed third party programs, like eBay, Lenovo App Shop, Skype, Evernote, and Kayak, among others. The system's desktop screen was free of extra icons. The M92p Tiny is Intel vPro certified, and comes with many of Intel's IT-friendly features like AMT (Active Management Technology) and Trusted Execution Technology. The system has a three-year warranty.

Performance
Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p The M92p Tiny has solid performance. Its third-generation Intel Core i5 processor helps it achieve good scores on our multimedia tests like Handbrake (1 minute 30 seconds) and Photoshop CS5 (3:21). These are faster than our former entry-level business Editors' Choice system, the Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 71 ($508 list, 4 stars) (1:37 Handbrake, 3:40 CS5) . The Polywell Poly i1000A-3770T is quite a bit faster (1:11 Handbrake, 3:03 CS5) due to its Core i7 processor. The Polywell i1000A-3770T was also faster at PCMark 7 (5,412 points), which measures day-to-day performance. The M92p Tiny brought in a still respectable score of 2,491 points. The Poly is faster due to its Core i7 processor and the system's 120GB SSD. The M92p's 500GB spinning hard drive held it back a little in comparison. That said, the M92p is certainly fast enough for most general business users.

The Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p Tiny is the pint-sized member of the enterprise-class ThinkCentre M92p family. Despite its diminutive size, it's a powerful and feature-filled system in its own right. The Poly i1000A-3770T holds on to its Editors' Choice award for small form factor systems, as it is a better performer (for quite a bit more money). But the ThinkCentre M92p Tiny win the Editor's Choice award for entry-level business systems over the aging Lenovo IdeaCenter Edge 71, since the M92p Tiny is a better forward-looking PC. Besides, most business users will never need the expansion room of a full sized tower chassis, and if they do there are larger versions of the M92p. The M92p beats the Lenovo Edge 71 in performance and in the number of next-generation I/O ports (like DisplayPort and USB 3.0). Plus, the M92p takes up little to no space on your worker's desks. This is important in an office full of cubicles, where space is a premium. The M92p Tiny works equally well in the startup or in the massive enterprise office, and its IT credentials are impeccable.

Natalie Portman attends the opening night performance of L.A. Dance Project on Saturday, Sept. 22.

By Us Weekly

Blonde Swan! Newlywed Natalie Portman made headline hair news over the weekend when the normally brunette beauty, 31, debuted sunny blonde hair at the Van Cleef & Arpels Dinner for L.A. Dance Project on Saturday.

PHOTOS: Natalie's gorgeous pregnancy

The Oscar-winning actress -- who hung out with husband Benjamin Millepied and Robert Pattinson at the bash -- told fellow revelers that the startling-but-stunning new look is for a film role, although she didn't elaborate.

A-list colorist Tracey Cunningham did the honors for Portman, who's the face of Miss Dior Cherie fragrance.

PHOTOS: Hair switchups in Hollywood

"Natalie makes a beautiful blonde!" Cunningham tells Us Weekly. "She needed to make the change for an upcoming movie role, and using Redken's Blonde Dimensions we achieved a gorgeous, multi-dimensional golden blonde."

The last time fans saw Portman go blonde, the star briefly wore a blonde bob wig playing a stripper who seduces Jude Law in "Closer."

She and French-born dancer-choreographer Millepied, 35, are parents to son Aleph, 15 months, and they tied the know in Big Sur, Calif., last month. Although Portman new 'do confirms she's continuing to work, she's also relishing motherhood, a source recently told Us.

"She has this glow about her these days. ... There's been a change in her since the little man arrived. She and Benjamin are so content."

ICC World T20: India Manage A Tough Win Against Afghanistan

ICC World T20: India Manage A Tough Win Against Afghanistan

Sep 22, 2012 -

The Indians notched an unconvincing victory over a fast learning Afghanistan side at Hanbantota on Wednesday. The Afghanis though gave a good account of themselves, on the way further exposing the chinks in the Indian armour.

After being put in to bat, the Indian started with diffidence. The Afghani pace bowlers managed to work up decent pace and bounce and they regularly troubled Gambhir and Sehwag. Gambir got dismissed in his typical style, attempting to run the ball down to third man. this time though inside edging onto the stumps. Sehwag followed soon enough and the scorecard read 22 for 2 in 4.1 overs. Thereafter, Yuvraj Singh and Kohli rebuilt the innings and took the score to 68 before Yuvi cut a short ball from Karim Sadiq to third man. Lusty hitting from Raina, Dhoni and a half century from Kohli ensured the score reached 159. The Indians received ample assistance from the indiscipline shown by the bowlers through the 14 wides. Raina was the beneficiary of two simple dropped chances and Kohli too received one life. All of these proving to be expensive let ups for the Afghanis.

In reply, the Afghanis came out all guns blazing and took a shine to Indian spearhead Zaheer Khan. Their keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad unfurled a helicopter shot that could put Dhoni to shame, Nowroz Mongal and Karim Sadiq kept up the pressure on the Indian bowlers as they reached 75 for 2 in 11 overs. The introduction of Yuvraj and Ashwin got the wickets and slowed the run rate down. At one time Afghanistan lost 3 wickets in 7 deliveries to be 75 for 5 in 12 overs. With hopes of a win fast fading away Mohammad Nabi produced a cameo of 31 runs off 17 deliveries to set the cat amongst the pigeons. But the experience of the Indians came to the fore as they held their nerves to win by 23 runs. Yuvraj and Balaji finished with three wickets each , while Ashwin bowled smartly for his two wickets.

For his innings of 50 runs, Virat Kohli was yet again adjudged the man of the match.
