Samsung Launches Galaxy Chat Budget Android Phone

Samsung has?announced a new Android phone, which although isn?t as feature rich as some of the company?s other phones ? yes, we?re talking about the Galaxy S III ? it?s still an unusual little device that will probably appeal to quite a few people.

The Galaxy Chat is a QWERTY phone with a 3-inch touchscreen, and it?s aimed at ?socially active users?, according to Samsung. This is proven by the presence of Samsung?s ChatON cross-platform messenger app, the GamesHub with several social games pre-installed, and access to Google Play, where apps for all the major social networks are ready for download.

QWERTY phones aren?t common in the Android world, so it?s good to see Samsung make an attractive phone with one fitted, plus the Galaxy Chat boasts Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as its operating system, which does a great job of?singling it out amongst 90% of other Android phones.

The Chat?s budget nature is exposed when you start examining the phone?s other features. The screen has a mere 240 x 320 pixel resolution, the camera has a feeble 2 megapixels, and Samsung hasn?t mentioned the clock speed of the processor at all.

It?s not all bad news though, as the Chat is a 3G device and has Wi-Fi built-in, plus there?s Bluetooth 3.0 and a microSD card slot to increase the standard 4GB of internal memory. At 112 grams and 11.7mm thick, it?s very pocket friendly too.

Samsung says the Galaxy Chat will be launching in Spain this month, and talks about a further rollout through Europe, Asia, China and Latin America as the year progresses. The UK isn?t specifically mentioned, but we can see the Galaxy Chat hitting PAYG networks sometime in the near future.
