Air Canada will upgrade its morning departure from Gander to Halifax to meet growing passenger demand, Gander International Airport announced today.
A news release notes that the morning flight is currently served by a 50-seat CRJ200. This aircraft will be replaced by a 75-seat CRJ-705 effective Feb. 1 and running through the end of the winter schedule.
The CRJ-705 is configured with 10 executive and 65 economy-class seats. All seats feature Air Canada?s in-seat on demand audio/visual entertainment.
?We are pleased to see Air Canada moving to meet strong passenger demand on the busy Halifax corridor,? said airport authority president and CEO Gary Vey. ?We hope this aircraft will become a year-round fixture as travel to Halifax and beyond remains very high.?
Air Canada offers up to eight daily flights to/from Gander, including two daily flights to Halifax, two to Goose Bay, three to St. John?s, and one to Toronto (summer seasonal). ?
Passenger traffic at Gander International Airport grew 5.7 per cent in 2012, representing the highest total since 1989.
