Colombia rebels announce delay in prisoner release (AP)

BOGOTA, Colombia ? Colombia's main rebel group says it is delaying the planned release of six security force members it has held for more than a decade.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia says on its website Wednesday that the delay owes to a "militarization" of the area where the release was planned.

Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon is rejecting the accusation. He says the military has no idea where the liberation is planned. The International Red Cross has coordinated past releases, working with former Sen. Piedad Cordoba.

A date had not been set for the releases, which were first announced Dec. 27.

The government says all captive security force members must be released before it addresses rebels overtures for peace talks.
